I like to think of myself as a moderately competent amateur, so if you're expecting museum-quality, 100% accurate models, you might be in the wrong place. But hey, it's all about the fun, right? You'll see some of my earlier attempts from my kit-bashing days, and I hope you'll agree that I haven't done too badly. This hobby is for my enjoyment first and foremost, so if the shade of green is off or there aren't enough rivets, feel free to let me know!
I do try and research the subjects I model and include a snippet of most pertinant info, where this is not possible then it should be assumed the subjects were decommissioned and "recycled". In compiling this site I have used many different source, to many to mention, If there is a brief history I do encourage you to do your own search , some of these storied are fascinating. I would like to acknowledge and thank the people behind the copious amount of data available. That said my sources are not infallible so if you have more corrections or contradictory evidence please reach out.
As a Gen-Xer, like many of my peers, I grew up making those iconic Airfix models. This sparked my deep interest in aviation and other mechanical subjects. My fascination with WWII aviation was fuelled by Warlord and Battle comics and the monthly dose of Commando graphic novels. After a significant gap, I returned to the hobby, so you'll see a lot of Spitfires, Hurricanes, and 109s. Growing up in the late '70s and '80s, you might also spot a few Falklands-themed items. So not sorry…
Lastly, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the men and women of the world's armed forces for standing on the line. With deep respect, I ask you to remember those who are still "on patrol."
According to records held by the RAF Museum Hendon, a total of 3,317 Hawker Typhoons were built (mostly by Gloster Aeroplane Co Ltd) of these only one complete Hawker Typhoon survives today: Typhoon Mk.IB serial MN235, which is preserved and displayed at the RAF Museum London. While several additional partial airframes, cockpit sections, and major rebuild projects exist, notably the RB396 restoration, as of now, no other airworthy or intact Typhoons are extant. This is unacceptable and must be rectified, we must honour the men and women that built, flew and maintained these magnificent machines. (I may be a little biased as I sat on my grandfathers knee while he regaled me with stories of Napier and the mighty Sabre engine. I have to hear the roar for myself.
